The Chilterns
The Chiltern Hills is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the north-west of London. The range of low chalk hills stretch for 30 miles from Barton-le-Clay in the north to Goring in the south. The Chilterns are famous for their beech woodlands, awash with bluebells in spring and glowing orange and yellow in the autumn. The hills of the escarpment offer stunning views over the plain below and the valleys are dotted with picturesque villages and elegant market towns. Chalk streams, an internationally rare habitat are also found in some Chiltern valleys and attract a huge variety of wildlife.
