Isles of Scilly

Around 30 miles west of Land's End lies a sub-tropical archipelago of beautiful islands. With gleaming white sand beaches and exotic plants, visitors could be forgiven for thinking they were far away from England. There are 5 larger inhabited islands as well as hundreds of smaller islands and rocky islets. These rocks have long been a hazard to shipping and there is evidence of the countless shipwrecks all over the islands. The islands' total population is just over 2100 people who welcome thousands of tourists every year. It is said that most of the accommodation on the islands is booked by the same people year after year which is why it can be difficult to find somewhere to stay as a first-time visitor.
